here is a story from dr. alan solomon (drsolly) taken from the funsec list:

here’s “the doomsday virus”.

it was written a year or so after 1986, before i’d actually seen a virus,
after people had started talking about them, and before anyone had
published any kind of analysis.

it was intended for publication in personal computer world (i wrote a lot
of magazines in those days). the editor said he’d liked it and would have
run it, but was worried that it might give people ideas.

    According to the press release ‘the biggest change over these 20 years has not been in the types of viruses or amount of malware: rather it has been in the motives of the virus writers’.
